Students investigated the "brown marks" in the sinks and tested the water for iron, nitrates, pH, phosphorus and discussed the upcoming water replacement in spring 2025.
All 675 fourth and fifth-grade students engaged in hands-on environmental monitoring aligned with Georgia Standards of Excellence and NGSS three-dimensional science instruction as part of the Macroinvertebrate Surveying action card. The initiative was led by the student environmental action team, The Guardians of the Triangle, and conducted within the school's bioswale and adjacent wetland area.
Rosemore students studied and researched ways one can reduce their carbon footprint. They created posters and a QR code to share their findings and encouraged others to take steps to reduce their own footprint. action card.
Students created a school field guide that documented the various plants, trees, animals, and insects surrounding the schoolyard. All grade levels worked together in teams to identify nature items, sketch them, research their findings, and share their knowledge. The project fostered a sense of pride and accomplishment, as students saw their artwork, notes, and photos compiled into a tangible field guide.
The Holmes action team, the Prickly Planet Protectors, were able to create an action plan to supplement what is now a district-wide lunch waste composting program. The school's kindergarten classes were able to study and learn about food waste. School administration along with staff are working with the district on future implementation of school-wide composting.
Students were tasked with surveying macro invertebrates during their annual field study trip. Students surveyed two sections of Elk Creek and found that the creek area with more cattle traffic was less healthy. They brainstormed possible solutions to improve the area.
