Competition Inspired Children, Raised Funds for National Wildlife Federation’s Mission
Following weeks of outdoor adventures and nationwide demonstrations of community spirit, the has named its champion, Thomas. Along with his $20,000 prize, Thomas will appear in an upcoming issue of Ranger Rick Jr., the beloved children’s magazine published by the National Wildlife Federation that has inspired a love of wildlife in kids since 1967.
"For decades, Ranger Rick and Ranger Rick Jr. have inspired millions of children to connect with animals, deepen their understanding of nature, and help wildlife thrive,” said , vice president for Ranger Rick brands and engagement at the National Wildlife Federation. “The 2025 Jr. Ranger Competition brought our mission to life for a new generation of young conservationists. Thanks to Thomas, Jeff Corwin, and all the families, communities, and kids who made it possible.”
The competition champion, Thomas, is a nature-loving explorer who maps trails, hunts mushrooms, and helps keep beaches clean. Thomas is passionate about orcas, forest critters, and discovering new sea life, beach cleanup and conservation.
Hosted by Emmy-winning wildlife expert Jeff Corwin and powered by , the nation’s leading professional fundraiser, the 2025 Jr. Ranger campaign raised $6.5 million for the National Wildlife Federation’s conservation mission.

The National Wildlife Federation also honored the Jr. Ranger Runner-Up, Callan, who is a budding naturalist who enjoys hiking, skiing with his grandpa, and exploring every corner of the outdoors. His curiosity about bugs, lizards, and all things dinosaur reflects the spirit of the Jr. Ranger competition: fostering wonder, discovery, and a commitment to protecting the planet.
