Times Square Billboard, Conservation Campaign Highlight Challenges Facing At-Risk Species
NEW YORK — The National Wildlife Federation and LG Electronics announced that the will be the latest species highlighted in its Endangered Species Awareness Series and in a dynamic display on an innovative and iconic Times Square billboard. The display brings these gentle creatures, selected by community vote, to life through a vibrant anamorphic presentation, highlighting their beauty and the urgent need to protect their habitats.
Launched in 2024, the series celebrates vulnerable wildlife from around the world while emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship. , a 10-part nature documentary exploring the majestic wildlife and ecosystems of North and South ʹappƽ̨, now airing Sundays at 8/7c on NBC and streaming next day on Peacock.
The West Indian Manatee is listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act and is protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act. These animals rely on warm coastal waters and healthy seagrass beds for survival, yet they remain vulnerable due to factors such as pollution, habitat degradation, and other disruptions to their ecosystem. Previous species featured in NWF and LG’s awareness series have included the snow leopard, bald eagle, sea lion, red wolf, and monarch butterfly.

As part of LG’s on-going partnership with (NWF) to highlight at-risk species, LG has launched an educational initiative to engage K-12 students in conservation efforts. The program features interactive content highlighting endangered species and their role in ecosystems, while also offering actionable steps to protect biodiversity. Educators and students can access free, standards-aligned resources online.

LG supports sustainability beyond the classroom through NWF’s EcoSchools U.S. and EcoLeaders programs, which equip educators, students, and communities with tools to drive meaningful environmental action. The company has pledged $150,000 to NWF to further these efforts and inspire future conservationists.
