WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee’s bipartisan vote to support Lee Zeldin as the next leader of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Wildlife Federation pledged to work with him on embracing equitable environmental protections, respecting science and transparency, and addressing the challenges facing wildlife and people.
“The mission of the Environmental Protection Agency are not merely words on a page, they’re a matter of life and death for wildlife and people alike,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. “When Representative Zeldin was in Congress, we had the opportunity to work with him on confronting PFAS pollution, reducing toxic mercury in our air and water, and defending public lands. During his nomination hearing, we appreciated his commitments to confronting climate change, ensuring clean air and clean water, improving public health, and affirming the essential role of the EPA in ensuring future generations can enjoy equitable access to a healthy environment. We also believe that recent directives will make achieving these essential goals more challenging and we stand ready to work with Rep. Zeldin to improve how the EPA listens to and supports frontline and fenceline communities most affected by pollution, upholds scientific integrity and transparency, and builds upon the agency’s half-century of progress.”
