WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congress should avoid playing politics with people’s lives and swiftly pass a robust disaster recovery package to help rebuild communities devastated by the California wildfires.
“Natural disasters like the devastating wildfires in California do not discriminate based on political boundaries or partisanship. Congress should resist the urge to politicize these tragedies and should swiftly pass a robust disaster-aid package that restores critical wildlife habitat, strengthens watershed and forest management, improves pre-fire mitigation through better data, and helps California communities rebuild stronger and more resilient,” said , president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. “Our leaders in Washington should rise above partisanship, ignore disinformation about unrelated issues, and affirm that no community stands alone in the wake of wildfires and other disasters.”
“The toll of the wildfires burning in and around Los Angeles is immense — both the ongoing destruction and the questions millions face about what’s next. The one thing that should not be uncertain, however, is that our leaders have our backs,” said , executive director of the Planning and Conservation League. “We need Congress and the incoming administration to swiftly pass a robust and clean disaster-aid package that make people whole and sets us up to rebuild stronger, safer, and more resilient.”
“Our gratitude to those who are coming together for California and trying to help us with this absolutely unprecedented disaster,” said , California regional executive director for the National Wildlife Federation. “In the Los Angeles area, these fires are devastating to both people and wildlife — and we appreciate those working together to find solutions to protect and rebuild our communities.”
